One of my favorite places on this planet is Dahab.
I've been there now 12 times since 1992.
There are great dive spots like "Blue Hole", "Canyon", "Eel Garden" or "Three Pools"
The great thing about this area is that there are deep sea underground volcanos which keep the water temperature on a stable level. Ideal conditions for corals.
Most of the dive spots are in protected natural reserve areas.
I would love to see some of these dive spots in WoD!!!
Does anybody else here has been in Dahab?
Have not been to Dahab, but have dived in Egypt before.
Very strong currents, very beautiful though.
Just looked up Dahab and looks like a great spot to dive.
Would never leave the water after seeing the images from the Eel garden.
Are the Eel gardens considered to be a dangerous diving spot too?
Not at all dangerous. It's only 10 to 15 m and not much current.
Eel Garden: (huge morena in the entrance channel)
Canyon: (wonderful place with glass fish in the beginning of the canyon)
Bells to Blue Hole (drop off to 220m with sharks or sometimes a whale shark)
Nice to see the diving maps for these locations.
Would love to go there some time and experience these location in real life.
The weather over there seems very pleasing as well.
Beautiful, i hope i get to dive somewhere this nice someday
I travel there whenever I can.
Seems like some amazing dive locations, very nice of you to share those maps, could come in handy some day.
I've met this guy at The Put van Ekeren in Antwerp who was giving out some flyers about Scuba Seekers Diving Club and Hotel Oricana in Dahab. He told me he lives there and is one of the organisers of the dives.
3 star hotel with breakfast 13€/pp/day, 10 dive package 165€ --> Canyon, Blue Hole, Bells, Islands, Lighthouse, Murray Garden, Caves, Um Sid,....
Anyone of you that been there (in Dahab) has any knowledge this is legit and this venue (hotel and club) are real? Thinking of going there but need to be sure this is a legit and good thing to go to.
Edit: What airport do I need to take to be close to Dahab?
I never been to Dahab, but did dived at the western side.
Best advice I can give you is to take a credit card with you.
In Belgium you're probably used to using an ATM / PIN.
When we visited we had some issues finding those,
since our hotel was located at a remote location.
Perhaps Egyptsun can give you better advice.
I have a netteller pre paid credit card wich i can charge trough the internet, so that is no issue.
I did my divemaster in Dahab 1998 at Club Red.
It was good fun and a quit nice place.
Dahab is on the list, looks amazing. Blue Hole, Arch.
Be careful with the Arch. It's too deep for regular air.
Round about 130 divers have died officially.
Very fascinating beautiful spot and also very creepy.
The Arch starts at 53m and goes down to 116m outside in the open sea it's 250m with currents.
I think there's one guy still down there at 105m
I personal know two young man that died at the ground of the blue hole.
They recover the bodies from 110m, both had working Equipment and still air in the tank.
Did someone redirect the arch, i remembeer that it is about 60m at the ocean side...
For sure there is a drop off to much more than 100m outside, but the Exit of the arch is not more than 60m deep.
It's a long crack:
WoW, nice history lesson about the dangers of diving. Never knew that many died there.
Current status: working 2-10 really s*#k ^_^
Some of the best apnoe divers managed to dive the arch in one breath.
William Trubridge did it even without fins: http://youtu.be/hrXQbucZUDA
ah good old kiwi 15 time world record holder.
Sorry for my late reply:(
There are many dive centers in Dahab. When I visited Dahab 1992 for the first time there was only one. "InMo Divers Home" (InMo = Ingrid & Mohammed)
Diving Instructors, Equipment and the Hotel are on German standards and I feel save underwater and above.http://www.inmodivers.de/
They have rooms for any budget: Backpackers for 11€/night up to huge rooms for a whole family.
Breakfast is great :D
You really feel that I'd say 90% of the guests are divers and there's a thing everybody has in common.
What can I say, I love this place...
Due to the extreme reduction of tourism in Egypt all corals and fishes are deeply relaxed:)
next Airport is: SSH - Sharm El Sheik
Got my Cert's here and still today the best place ive dived and my fav place fullstop.
do they still have all the little water front cafe's right on the water edge?
Yes :) After an exciting day diving you can sit in one of the cafes on carpets with big pillows an watch the sea, while you drink sweet tea... oh man... what a life :)
yup man wanna go back now smoke so shessha
the arch starts at 55m if i remember right, no problem doing air dives to 60 and just go in the arch, but not recomendet for sports divers :)
Whent down to the botom 2009, but thats with Trimix. did the Arch 2 days befor the botom and i did the arch with air, nitrox is geting abit toxic at that depth. air is okay if you are trained to air dive.
My Air dive tablets go down to 97m. and that can be done :) but isent easy
Doing the Arch with one regular air tank killed a lot of people.
People underestimate how deep this tunnel is.
one tank is no go :) but with twin cylinders and Deco cylinder it can be done :)
The crazy thing is that many of the dead divers were dive masters.
i have seen many divemasters that think they are the best divers in the world, just becus you have like 300 dives and are a divemaster, dont make you a good diver :P
Have to this day 3427 dives. and i just got my AOW last year :P Yes iam a military/commercial diver. but tiles dont make you a good diver, alot of divers think that Divemasters are the best of the best.
Been to Dahab 3 times, its a fantastic diving location.
This is a great game/sim, for the past 4 years i was wondering when was a game like this going to be done if ever, now it is, congratulations to the development team, excellent work, please keep expanding game :)
I'm just coming back from Dahab!
Oh it was wonderful! We stayed two weeks at Inmo Divers (http://www.inmodivers.de/).
Here are two pictures I took underwater:
