Actually, almost all latin languages uses the word "Hippocampe/Hippocampus".

The "hippo" is with a "I" not a "Y". "Hippo" means "Horse" in greek, like "Hippocampe" means "horse-seafish". "Hypo" means "under/low", like "Hypothermia" means "low-heat".

"Hippopotamus" : "Horse-river".
"Hypoglycemia" : "low-sweet-blood"

And, to be complete, note that there is actually a "Hypohippus", meaning, of course, "low-horse"

(this linguistic moment was presented to you by Anahita/Anahit, which is actually a non-gender adjective in old persian meaning "pure".)

actually my "hyppo" was a typo i have make by thinking english speaker use "y" at replace of "i"..
see, my english is terrible, error like that, i make around a thousand in only 1 line of 5 words. ://

Isn't that part of the brain called Hippocampus? Or is that just the dutch version?

Well, you were right, almost. Hippocampe is the French name for both and we, French speaking people, like to frenchize every latino-greek words where English speakers tend to keep them Latin (hippocampus/hippocampe)

For me it's a sea turtle

Because I like the way it swims, look peaceful. Always makes me feel calm when I see it on TV. Would be nice to see one in person under the sea

And now, I would like to answer the initial question :

I had many favourite see animal. Sharks, dolphins, swordfish...

But everytime I think about this question, only one stays in my mind. One image, one beauty I have in mind since I am a child :

The Blue Whale.

I it just like an underlying obsession, like some primitive instinct that I can't change.
And I don't want to.

The heaviest animal ever wandered our planet. A testimony of time and seas.

Just look at this and tell me this is not beautifull.

My favs are Dolphins and Sea Lions. While growing up I would go to the Miami Seaquarium quite a lot and the dolphins and Sea Lions always seem the most playful. I was able to swim with the dolphins on many occasions and every time it is a thrill.

No real favorites, but I'm certainly intrigued by rays and skates.

Sharks! any species, any size... just sharks. Because I believe they are one of the few predatory animals a human can get close to without getting hurt at all and they are powerful, beautiful, majestic creatures.

Work is for people who don't dive

My favourites are the nautilus (for its marvellous symmetry) and the humpback whale (for its song).

Oh, and those things that go into paella. Mmmhhh...
